Mary Howard CE Primary School works hard to develop and sustain Christian distinctiveness through their motto, ‘Grow and flourish’.

We have a strong commitment to Christian and Human Values which underpins our decisions and drives the curriculum, teaching, collective worship and wider opportunities we provide. To ensure that time can be spent exploring the Christian Distinctiveness of our values, the themes of Collective Worship are changed each half term.

Worship

Collective worship at our school is inclusive, inspirational and invitational and happens daily. Our meaningful and varied worship timetable supports children in developing their spirituality and religious understanding. Within our communities, both schools have close links with the village churches and we are fortunate to have a weekly visit at each school from a member of the clergy who delivers collective worship. Every half term, we visit Holy Trinity Church in Edingale to celebrate important times in the church calendar. These visits include: Harvest, Christingle, Mothering Sunday and Easter. Our Year Six leaver’s services are also held in church at the end of the school year.

Our Welcome Words:

“Welcome everyone.”

“It is good to be here together!”

Our Words of Dismissal:

“Let’s remember today to show peace and love.

To forgive when others upset us.

To remember that we are all equal to God.

To think about what we say before we say it.

To thank God for a new day.”

“Thank you God for all your good gifts.”

Church Services

Prayer

Prayer is an important and enjoyable opportunity for us to communicate with God. Within our daily routines, collective worships and at Church, we have regular times to pray and show gratitude for what we have. Prayer at our school is always invitational and a time to reflect.

Our Lunchtime Prayer

“For what we’re about to receive, may the Lord make us truly thankful. Amen.”

Our End of Day Prayer

“Thank you for our day at school. Look after us tonight. Please keep us safe until we see each other again. Amen.”

Spiritual Council worked with Reverend Nicky to write our beautiful school prayer!

Classroom Reflection Areas

We take pride in our inclusive, inspirational and invitational classroom reflection areas. Our classroom reflection areas support children in developing spirituality in a safe, interactive and purposeful environment that offers opportunities to pause, question, reflect and respond.

Our reflections

Our Spiritual Council comprises of one representative from each year group at Mary Howard CE Primary School and St Andrew’s CE Primary School. This group of children work together to develop the spiritual life of our school through collective worship, prayer and charitable events. Children gather suggestions and meet to discuss and evaluate collective worship before feeding their ideas back to classes.

Meet our Spiritual Council Representatives!

Spiritual Council gives out awards to children who demonstrate our school values!

In the lead up to Christmas, we want to show our love for the vulnerable people in our village community. Spiritual Council wrapped donations and delivered a kindness kit to a vulnerable member of our village community to show that we are thinking of them during this festive season. We are proud to live out our school values of love and koinonia!
