Pupil Premium Information for Parents

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to support schools in improving the educational outcomes of disadvantaged children. This funding is allocated to schools based on the number of children who are eligible for free school meals, children who are looked after by the local authority, and children from families with parents in the armed forces.

Purpose of Pupil Premium

The primary aim of the Pupil Premium is to help close the achievement gap between disadvantaged children and their peers. The funding allows us to implement targeted interventions and support tailored to the needs of eligible children, ensuring they have the same opportunities to succeed as all other children.

How We Use Pupil Premium Funding

At Mary Howard Primary, we are committed to making the most of the Pupil Premium funding to enhance the educational experience of our disadvantaged children. Our strategies include:

  • Additional Teaching Support: Providing extra teaching assistants in classrooms to support targeted groups of children.

  • Academic Interventions: Implementing specific programmes aimed at improving literacy and numeracy skills for children who need extra help.

  • Pastoral Support: Offering emotional and social support through mentoring and counselling services to help children overcome barriers to learning.

  • Enrichment Activities: Funding extracurricular activities, such as clubs and trips, to ensure all children can participate fully in school life.

  • Professional Development: Investing in training for staff to ensure they are equipped with the best strategies to support disadvantaged children.

Measuring Impact

We continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our Pupil Premium strategies. Our annual Pupil Premium Statement, published on our website, outlines how we have used the funding and the impact it has had on our children’s educational outcomes. This statement is updated every year to reflect our ongoing commitment to improving the lives of our disadvantaged children.
