Class Three began their unit of learning in Science this week by exploring the hardness and uses of materials. We began by revisiting prior learning and established the difference between an object, a material and a property. The children identified the materials of a range of objects and predicted which would be the hardest and softest. After investigating the hardness of the materials using a scratch test, the children used a pattern seeking enquiry to observe how easily each material scratched. Working collaboratively, Class Three organised their materials into two categories: hard and soft. We concluded by discussing the degree of trust in our results and shared ideas about we could increase the reliability of our findings.
