This week, Willow Class became "Bird Detectives" as we dived into Lower Key Stage 2 Science. We’ve been learning how to group living things by looking at their unique features.

What We Learnt:

• Bird Basics: We identified that while all birds have feathers and lay eggs, they can look very different depending on where they live and what they eat.

• Classification Keys: The children learned how to use a "branching" system of Yes/No questions to identify different species.

• Scientific Thinking: We practiced looking for specific physical clues—like the shape of a beak or the color of a chest—to sort a Robin from a Blue Tit or a Red Kite.

Try it at home!

Next time you’re in the garden or at the park, ask your child: "What's one 'Yes or No' question we could use to tell these two birds apart?" They are now experts at spotting the difference!
