EYFS Repeating patterns
This week we have been looking at and identifying patterns. Reception were given a variety of resources - buttons, cubes, animals and dinosaurs to make their own repeating patterns and continue them.
Investigating through play
In Geography we are answering the question, “What is it like to live at the coast?” Our provision has had a seaside theme with an under the sea reading den, beach cafe, sea creatures and shells to explore!
Natural materials
We worked in teams to collect natural materials in the playground to create some simple animal shelters. We used twigs, sticks, stones and leaves and shared our ideas for a strong structure.
Year 1 maths
Year 1 have been extending their number knowledge to one hundred. They have been partitioning into tens and ones using practical resources.
Is The Gingerbread Man waterproof?
We are completing science experiments this half term with a story focus and to revise our knowledge from the year. We used our observation skills over five minutes to watch changes when The Gingerbread Man got wet! He was very soggy and had absorbed lots of water!
PE in the sun
We made the most of the weather today! We worked individually and with a partner to develop our ball skills. Great teamwork!
Digital writing
We have been using the iPads to develop our typing skills. We know how to use the keys to type words, how to change the font size and the colour. Some of the children even added an emoji!
Gardening fun!
We had a lovely time this afternoon planting pea and cucumber seeds. We placed our pots carefully in the polytunnel and we will check them each week. Special thanks to Oliver’s parents for helping us!
Pencil pots
In Design Technology we have been making our own pencil pots! We painted them this week and next week we will add the final decorations before we can test them out!
Investigating how flowers grow
We have been reading “The Tiny Seed” and exploring the life cycle of a sunflower. We have been drawing sunflowers using pastels, exploring soil and seeds in a hands-on way and pretending to grow our own flowers in our garden den!
Science questions and investigations
Our question was “Do woodlice like damp or dry places?” We carefully observed them over time and our predictions were correct! The woodlice moved quickly to the damp side of the dish where the paper was wet. We linked this back to their microhabitats and where they like to live. We also found out…
Explanations
In English we looked at features of an explanation text. Then we worked in pairs to find and label each feature so we know what to include in our own writing!
