Understanding Area with Squares!
In maths, Year 4 have been exploring the area of a 2D shape. They used post-it notes to create their own shapes with a set area. Well done Year 4!
Shape
In Maths we have been investigating shapes. We created shapes and patterns using lollipop sticks and used geoboards to create shapes of different sizes.
Addition and subtraction
We have been working hard in Maths exploring part whole models and using them to write number sentences!
Position and direction
Some collaborative learning and problem solving in Maths this week. The children had to program a Robot Mouse to move around a track collecting cheese! They had to use forwards, backwards, left, right and turn functions to work out a route! This helped our position and direction knowledge!
Class Two: Time
Well done to Class Two! You have worked so hard throughout our time unit. We have all deepened our existing learning and eradicated common misconceptions. I am so proud of you all!
Time
Year 2 have been learning to tell the time to the nearest five minutes!
Reflecting Shapes
As part of our position and direction unit in maths, Class Three learned how to accurately reflect shapes in vertical and horizontal mirror lines!
Length and height
Our maths topic this week has been length and height. We have completed lots of practical activities and used vocabulary such as longer, taller and shorter to compare measures. Year 2 completed some accurate measuring with a ruler and estimated length in metres.
Money, money, money!
Year 2 have almost finished a maths unit about money! They have been counting coins and notes, choosing the correct coins to pay for an item and solving problems. Our supermarket role play area helped with this too. Well done Year 2!
Circles and triangles
Reception have been looking at 2d shapes and identifying circles and triangles. They used fantastic language to describe them such as “triangles have corners” and “circles are round.” We had a go at printing some circle collages to help with our descriptions.
Factors
In Maths this week, Year 5 learned that factors are whole numbers multiplied together to create a product. They used practical equipment to represent factor pairs and support their reasoning when problem solving. Year 6 used factors as a method to divide by first identifying factor pairs…
Subitising 3 and 4
Reception have been looking at the different ways 3 and 4 can be made. The Numberblocks help us to remember! Today they made their own subitising cards with spots and stickers!
